Soccer Specific Summer

With today's announcement of two more friendlies, the abbreviated 2009 WNT domestic schedule is now set. The U.S. will be playing, in order: in Frisco, Texas; Sandy, Utah; Rochester, N.Y.; and Charleston, S.C. Olympic semifinalists Japan will be the opponents for the first two matches in late May, while Canada will head south for a pair of matches in July.

The common thread between all of these cities? They house stadiums built for a soccer team as their primary tenant. As far as we can tell, this is the first time that in any one year the WNT or MNT has played in only soccer specific stadiums.

The even better news is that three of the four games wedged into the middle of the WPS season will be televised. Complete details are below.

2009 WNT Domestic Tour
USA vs. Japan - May 20, 2009 - 7:30 p.m. CT
Pizza Hut Park - Frisco, Texas - Tickets

USA vs. Japan - May 23, 2009 - 4 p.m. MT
Rio Tinto Stadium - Sandy, Utah - Tickets
Live on FSC & Fox Sports en Espanol

USA vs. Canada - July 19, 2009 - 3 p.m. ET

I'm so happy a channel is ACTUALLY TELEVISING some games!!! Now I dont have to worry about not making the games (they are way out of my area) cuz they'll be on TV!!! Great that the games were snuck into the WPS season cuz I'd hate to see the teams without their USWNT stars!!! Thanks for updating the blog & scheduling these games! I'm so excited!!

Absolutely PUMPED to see everyone in Rochester! Should be an AMAZING turnout, as always.

The WPS is great, but I miss my WNT! Can't wait, see you in July! <333

I'll be watching on TV! (never thought I'd say that)
I agree, the WPS is great, but I've missed the WNT.
It's good that they get some time on TV, they deserve it, specially now that we have our own league.
