Ask Ang

Since our fan Q&A with Carli Lloyd earlier during this training camp proved so popular, we've decided to put Angela Hucles on the hot seat. The U.S. midfielder-turned-forward stepped up HUGE at the 2008 Olympics, taking the injured Abby Wambach's spot in the starting lineup, helping the USA adjust its attacking style, and scored an amazing four goals to lead the U.S. in scoring, including two during the 4-2 semifinal victory over Japan. Once again, we'll pick a few good questions and have Angela respond via the WNT Blog in a few days. A reminder: We like creative, insightful and thought-provoking questions. So, if you have a query for Hucles, please go ahead and ask...

Hey Ang!! You obviously had a great year in 2008. What changed for you during that year and do you feel as if you drastically changed much as a player, or if it was just a little tweaking to make you one of the best players on the team?

Where is your favorite place to go or do when you have a chance to go back home to Virginia Beach, aka the 757?

Zoe took my question, but I have another one. Did you feel pressured to be the goal scorer during the Olympics, or was it something you felt comfortable with? All the best!

What do you think you would be doing if soccer wasn't your career right now?

In your career when did you actually realize that you had the potential to be on the olympic team, and when you realized this what did you do to get there?

Hey Ang!
First of all thank you for taking the time and replying to all our questions, you have no idea how much this means to us. I have few questions for you can you please tell me who is you buddy on the team? What's your favorite thing about the team? I have one more thing: What is Hope Solo like in person? I'm sorry for asking but she is like my guru hehehe and I never had a chance to meet her.
P.S. Great job in Beijing those four goals were just awesome, hope to see you in NJ --love,Agata

I just wanted to know what you're state of mind was before you were starting on the olympic team and if that changed after the olympics? I know its important to be a team player and play the roles but did you ever feel frustrated by not being out on the pitch?

How did you react when you were told you would be taking Abby Wambach's spot at the Olympics?

What's up Angela?!?!?! So I'm pretty bad when it comes to soccer but well I'm coaching my nieces team. What advice would you give to someone who has no idea to what he's doing out there? Also, if you could play another sport what would you play and what position?

Do you ever heard about women's soccer and players in Poland?

Hi Ang,

How often have you had to, for the good of the team, play in a position that you felt was not your natural position, and how have you handled that situation?

Thanks,
Smitty

Glad to have you back in Boston! Can't wait for the season to start! Do you feel as though you have a specific role to play in Boston? Also, is there anything that you are dying to get back to Boston for?

Hucles! Wanted you to know that during the Olympics, I wrote in to my local newspaper, as they were featuring local Olympians, to include you. I was very dissapointed that you weren't included, but after I wrote in, they always had you in there. They had good reason! Didn't you have some special goals or something? HAHA! I met your mom at the Richmond game a few months ago too.

Anyways, I always admired you for going to S. Africa. I have been on several mission trips to Russia to the same orphanage. Actually, the organization I go with now travels and help Swaziland! You are such an amazing person, soccer-wise and your humanitarian actions. What made you choose to go on that trip last year?

Hello, I hope you have a great year and congratulations on 2008. Since you have been traveling with the team and had shared a room with quite a few of your teammates. I was wondering who have you enjoyed rooming with and why?. How would you describe the new kids Lauren Cheney, Tobin Heath, and Amy Rodriguez?. Good Luck with the Breakers.

Taking Abby's position must have been a huge responsiblity. Did you feel at all that you had to be a powerhouse on the field with scoring, due to the loss?
Thanks, good luck this year.

You have definitely scored plenty of important goals across all friendlies, games and tournaments! My question to you is...which was the most important goal amongst all for you and why?

Thanks,
Marjory

Is there a certain teammate from the WNT that you are worried about playing against in the new WPS?

Hi, thanks for taking the time to answer the questions.
When you were younger, did you ever go play for a new team and didn't quite know the players as much as you knew the ones from your old team? I'm living this situation right now and I realized I'm not as nervous when it comes to play soccer, I'm more nervous about actually bounding with the girls although it's not my type not to fit in.
Thanks sooo much and congrats for everything!!!!

Aside, of course, from the gold medal, what is the best souvenir you brought back from China?

Kudos on a spectacular 2008! <3
