Not Cool

We apologize in advance for having to post this entry as it’s not interesting, fun or amusing like almost every other scribble we drop in when we’re with the WNT, but it’s something we need to address.

Since we started the WNT Blog, we’ve encouraged our readers to comment on entries and interact with us and the players, and 99.9 percent of the people add comments that are respectful, but it’s always that .1 percent that tries to ruin it for the rest, right? At times certain people have sent inappropriate comments, which we obviously have deleted before they can see the light of day. Now, this is a free country, but the Blog was set up so fans can follow the WNT on its travels around the USA and the world, to give some more insight into the goings on and the personalities of the team and to give fans a medium to be more interactive with ussoccer.com. It was not intended to simply allow for anyone at a computer to post derogatory comments.

So, anyone out there thinking of writing something over the line, think twice before you do it for two reasons: 1) No one will ever see it anyway as we control which comments are made visible on the blog, which means you're just wasting your time, and 2) some comments are not simply unwelcome, but arguably illegal. We are working with authorities who will take the necessary action to uncover the individuals who continue to write such comments. You can only hide behind anonymous blog postings for so long.

So, in short, please leave the blog and postings for those who enjoy them and use the site correctly. We are not saying you can’t post a strong opinion, positive or negative, please do, but keep it in the realm of free speech. Or if you continue to post, please be brave enough to include your contact phone number and email so we can have a follow up discussion.

Right on, well said!!!! I hate it when people come on the teams website and just bash the players or the sport. People that do that have no life.

Oh jeez! That is really immature that people are posting stupid things on this blog. Please people just grow up and find something else to waste your time on. It's rude and unfair to people who like to watch the progress of the WNT.

Well said! I have always enjoyed the blog and have been impressed with its mix of humor, information and insight into the WNT. While all being done in a professional manner. I am glad you are taking a hard stand with those who try to ruin and degrade it for the rest of us. Good for the WNT Blog. Keep up the good work!

All the best!

Your blog rocks, and the US WNT is probably the most inspiring team in the United States of any gender or sport, and truly demonstrates so many of the positive and amazing things about sports (in contrast to so many other pro sports and teams). Keep up the good work!

I don't understand what isn't covered by free speech on the internet? Obviously there's no way to shout Fire over it. So you're possibly talking about threats and the like. Yes that's really disgusting, but this place isn't special. Every website ever has people commenting on it horrible terrible things. Just don't see what a separate blog post addressing it can do. Best course of action, since only the Blog handlers see the comments and delete them, ignore them. Again it's the internet, there's a lot of stupid people on it.

People who write mean comments are just jealous that they couldn't be part of the best team in the world. This blog is funny and interesting to read, and it's the closest we get to the WNT (for those die hard fans, including myself :]). You guys do a great job of updating. Keep it up.

Go USA!

Good post WNT crew. Let's keep the ignoramuses out of The Beautiful Game. Nuff respect to you all for keeping this blog clean and always entertaining!

I think that you guys are completely right. I hate when people do stuff like that. Some people just have too much time on their hands, or are just plain immature. I really enjoy this blog as a USWNT fan, and I get a lot of laughs too! This is a great place for the fans to get an inside look at the team and its players, and I think you guys do a really good job of keeping us updated! its just unfortunate that some people have to be real idiotic about it.

Wishing the USWNT and the Blog all the best,

Denise

I agree that negative comments are distasteful and unnecessary - but probably a stretch to claim they are illegal (especially if the blog can monitor comments).

Any reasonable criticism NEVER makes it to not just the women's blog, but the youth and especially the men's blogs as well. Its one thing thing to get upset about violent threats (understandable), but you guys never allow any fair criticism posts anyway, despite you just saying in this post you do. So whats the point of this post? If you have a real threat, its easy to track down people on the internet, but seriously, don't go around acting like you allow free speech on these blogs.
