Twas the Night

Twas the night before the Cup, and throughout the team floor,
Not a creature was stirring, not even number 4 (Cat Whitehill).
The cleats and the shin guards were laid out with care,
In hopes that soon the first WWC game would be there.

The players were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of goals danced in their heads,
Tomorrow, North Korea, and the start of the quest,
The U.S. team, and its goal, of being the best.

very nice match. i didn't expect such a good match from PRK, but they were very strong passers, great speed, possession, fast breaks, and solid defense. The US held strong. Would of loved for the win of course, but I think the tie was valiant. Good luck in the coming matches. After matching PRK I think the US have survived a great test and will rise to the occasion of the remaining group play.

Great job girls! Way to come back with that second goal! Although the game was at 2 am Arizona time, I didn't even need coffee because I was so excited. Also I hope Abby’s head is alright. Keep up the good work and good luck in your game!

Jak, I concur. Great match. NK was indeed a dark horse, but I think given that they had tons of footage of your play and you had little exposure to them, you guys did a great job.

I especially love how you guys dug deep. Abby, what can we say? Tougher then nails does not even begin to describe you. And your enthusiasm had me amped up and I wasn’t even at the game for peats sake. And Hope, holy cow your were like a ducky at the fair shooting range who won’t go down. To come back after two goals and make those saves, it was straight-up AWESOME. I also loved your message to your dad on your gloves. And to the defense in general, was that like the workout of your life?! And what’s more, two MOMs, it’s amazing. I know you are all athletes and are probably thinking about mistakes made, etc, but at the end of the day, you did what needed to be done, and I’ll tell you what, this is going to be a great world cup. Germany better be prepared because we’re a coming, and we’re taking names (and points).

PS, I think as a symbol of the unity you displayed today even on the brink of disaster you should all dye a few strands of hair red to match Abby’s au natural streaks. Maybe ill dye mine too.

I have to say you all looked a little panicked at times in the midfield. Very uncharacteristic of this team. Was it the crowd or was it the nerves of the opening game? Instead of clearing the ball upfield, why not pass to a forward upfield next time...you're only putting yourself at risk with all those risky clearances. Especially those throwins so close to your goal

Does anyone know why all the PRK players have the same haircut? It's KILLING me...(ps - I"m serious - is it some kind of team bonding thing...or some kind of communist regime thing....or just the popular haircut of the day in North Korea?)
