After the embarrassing German thrashing of Argentina in the opening game, the three matches on Sept. 11 proved why this may indeed the best Women’s World Cup ever. The USA-North Korea clash was one of the most exciting Women’s World Cup matches in recent memory, with both teams attacking relentlessly and piling up almost 40 shots between them! The WNT Blog is going to give North Korea the edge in possession for sure, but give the Americans the slight nod in legitimately dangerous chances. North Korea has to be one of the best teams the USA has seen in years, certainly since the Sun Wen-led China teams of the late 1990s. For those who got up early to watch in the USA, the 2-2 draw had to be as good as a shot of espresso.

My friends and I woke up super-early to watch and we were on pins & needles the whole time! I thought we were already watching the final match because it was so intense!!! Magnificent efforts by both US and North Korea. I declare Hope Solo the woman of the match—-such brilliant saves, especially in the closing minutes!!! I’m so excited about the upcoming games! I think this World Cup will definitely bring much more attention to Women’s Soccer. WOOHOO!!!
It truly was good to wake up to see such a great soccer game. I have followed the WNT for a while, and that has to be one of if not the best women's soccer games I have seen. A great display of the beautiful game. I think this very well may be the best WWC yet.
I am glad that your play is an ad for women's soccer. Those Nike ads are atrocious -- not funny and really are making fun of our fine team. Nike needs to pull them and start over. Remember "If You Let Me Play"? Now that was an ad campaign.
I agree North Korea did dominate the possession. We needed to sub in some more midfielders and change the formation to hold the ball better, but overall the ladies proved strong by gaining a tie.
I agree the ads need to go, although I think the PR guy is very funny. With as little focus and attention that the Women get to call them the "best team you've never heard of" is just a slap in the face. There are fans who have heard of these players for many years and to lable them this way just goes to show how much work still needs to be done. I've flown all over the country to watch them and will be up at the crack of dawn for the next few weeks. If people haven't heard of them then we need to ask some deeper questions, like why haven't you heard of them?
I purchased special wireless headphones for this game so my roommates wouldn't be disturbed. Turns out the headphones only block out the noise from the tv, not my yelling and screaming. It was a fantastic game, its just a shame that the group is so packed with potential while the others are a bit lopsided.
The game against Korea was intense! I had the hardest time not cheering out loud and waking the whole house up! You go girls!
