CCTV

While the Four Nations matches are not on TV in the USA, for those willing to stay up in the wee hours of the morning, the WNT Blog has learned that there is a way to watch the games. Becky Sauerbrunn's boyfriend Zola, a former UVA soccer player, did some internet research and found a CCTV 5 (Chinese Central Television's sports channel) site that had the USA-Canada game live. Apparently, it took him an hour to get it working, but being the tech savvy guy that he is, he worked it out and watched the whole game from Charlottesville, Va., (that's midnight to 2 a.m. ET) even after Becky left the game. Now that's a good boyfriend. We'll try to get some more info on the site and post it on the Blog for those who are big enough WNT fans (or have enough coffee) to stay up and watch. Just make sure you don't log onto CCTV Channel 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 or 9. It's CCTV 5. It's sort of the ESPN of China, except with much more table tennis, badminton and snooker.

If you can't stay up, but still want to see the goals, there will be highlights of all three matches on ussoccer.com as soon as we get them cut and edited.

It is not CCTV 5, it is CCTV FOOTBALL which as we can tell is only available via the sopcast p2p. We had a big old party on the WNT Facebook page last night when we figured it out. Here is a good rundown of the setup instructions from big soccer forum.

First you need to get the correct P2P Player

1. Go to http://www.sopcast.org/ and download the software on that page. If for some reason it does not work there are additional downloadable versions available here: http://www.sopcast.org/download/ (Be sure to note where you are saving it so you can find the file.

2. The folder will be compressed so once it is saved, go to the location right click on the file and click extract all…. . A window will open and go to the bottom left and click extract. The setup program should appear. Click the icon and being the installation

3. I have no clue how to get a mac version of this so if you have one, id start looking for a comprable p2p player that carries the CCTV Football channel.

Secondly you need the channel:
1.Start SopCast:

2.login as anonymous option

3.type in the address box at the top CCTV Football

4.A video player will open to the right.

5. It may take a minute to load (note the green box in the bottom right corner of the screen which shows from 0-100% in terms of buffering.

6.If you get an error message, continue to try to load the channel or try restarting SopCast.

7.If for some reason you cannot find the channel by using the address box, you can manually browse by clicking the live channels tab, and scrolling down to the CCTV football link under the Sports Test Channel Group Heading.

The game times should be
1/18 USA v. Finland at 3:30Am EST
1/20 USA v. China at 3:30 am EST

I would try to get on at least 10 minutes before kickoff because the initial buffering can take awhile.

Go to www.sopcast.org at the top of the page is a button labelled downloads, click on it and then download sopcast player. Have all websites closed when you launch the player, I couldn't launch it with anything open. When you have it open there is a button at the top labelled Live Channels click on that. There should be a list of channels that are available to watch click on cctv football and it should launch the channel. When China plays, their games will be broadcast on cctv 5.

The game was on CCTV-Football, not CCTV-5. The US vs. Finland game will probably be on CCTV-Football. The US vs. China game is on CCTV-5. You can download a player on sopcast.com. It's kind of confusing. If you need help, people have posted instructions on bigsoccer.com (under women's soccer-news and analysis). Numerous players carry CCTV-5, but I only found CCTV-football on sopcast.com. Hope this helps. Let's get more people watching!! We can rant about the lack of Matchtracker later.

Bummer, I was up and watching CCTV5 on TVU (which I find nicer than Sopcast), but it was tennis. Wish I had known about CCTV Football then, but now that I do I'll catch the next game for sure. Thanks everyone.
